Game Overview

I first played The Simpsons: Bart's House of Weirdness back in 1992, a time when MS-DOS games were often quirky and experimental. It was developed by Distinctive Software, a company known for solid arcade-style ports, and this game definitely fit that mold. It felt like a product of its era, built on a simple premise that tried to capture the show's anarchic spirit without a huge budget.

You control Bart Simpson, tasked with retrieving confiscated items from various rooms in his house, which have become bizarre, monster-filled levels. The gameplay is screen-by-screen exploration; you move through static rooms, jumping on furniture, avoiding enemies like spiders and ghosts, and collecting items. Your main tools are a slingshot to stun foes and a burp ability to break down certain walls. The pacing is deliberately slow and methodical, with a high difficulty stemming from limited lives and precise platforming. It feels like a clunky but earnest attempt to translate cartoon mischief into a challenging adventure game.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
