Game Overview

Skunny: Back to the Forest came out in 1993, published by Copysoft for MS-DOS. It was part of that wave of European platformers that filled shareware catalogs, the kind you'd get on a floppy disk with a dozen other games. You play as a squirrel named Skunny, tasked with saving your animal friends from an army of frogs led by a toad king.

You control Skunny through a series of side scrolling levels, jumping across platforms and avoiding enemies like frogs and birds. Your main weapon is a slingshot, which you use to stun or defeat foes by shooting acorns. The game requires careful exploration to find keys that unlock cages, freeing captured friends. Health is managed by collecting nuts hidden in out of the way spots, often demanding precise jumps. The pacing is brisk, and some sections can be quite difficult due to enemy placement and limited continues. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes punishing challenge from an era where trial and error was part of the fun.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
