Advanced Tactical Air Command came out in 1998 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Jan Hasenjager. It arrived late in the DOS era, a time when flight sims were pushing the limits of what older hardware could handle, and it fit right in with that no-nonsense, systems-heavy approach to simulation.

You pilot a fighter jet through hostile airspace, managing fuel, weapons, and radar contacts while engaging enemy aircraft and ground targets. The main goal is to complete missions—often strike or interception runs—without getting shot down or running out of fuel. Key mechanics include waypoint navigation, managing multiple weapon systems, and using your radar to track bandits. The pacing is tense and deliberate; you spend a lot of time scanning the horizon and checking systems, punctuated by bursts of high-G maneuvering and missile locks. It feels like a constant, high-stakes juggling act where every decision has weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
