Game Overview

Final Fantasy III—or VI, depending on where you grew up—is one of those SNES RPGs that just sticks with you. You start as Terra, a girl with mysterious powers, and before long, you're tangled up with rebels, thieves, and a guy who suplexes ghost trains for fun. The world’s got this weird mix of steampunk tech and dying magic, and the villain? A clown who’s way scarier than he sounds.

The pixel art somehow makes every character feel alive—Locke’s smirk, Celes singing in an actual opera scene, Kefka’s manic grin. And the combat? Classic turn-based, but with enough twists (like the Esper system) to keep you experimenting. The second half of the game? No spoilers, but it’s wild.

Even now, the soundtrack gives me chills. If you’ve never played it, you’re in for something special. If you have, you already know why people still argue it’s the best Final Fantasy.
