Game Overview

Final Fantasy IV on the SNES is one of those games that just sticks with you. You start as Cecil, a dark knight with serious doubts about his kingdom, and before long you're dragged into this wild, emotional journey with a crew of misfits—like the hotheaded ninja Edge or the soft-spoken summoner Rydia. The battles feel surprisingly quick thanks to that Active Time system, where enemies don’t wait for you to pick a move.

What really got me was how the story doesn’t pull punches. People betray each other, make sacrifices, and sometimes don’t come back. And that soundtrack? Nobuo Uematsu absolutely nailed it—the overworld theme still pops into my head randomly. Even if you’ve never touched a Final Fantasy game before, this one’s a perfect place to start. It’s old, yeah, but it holds up way better than it has any right to.
