Final Fantasy IV came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, developed by Square. It was one of the earlier RPGs on the platform, and it really showed what the system could do with its detailed sprites and a more complex story than many games at the time.

You control Cecil, a dark knight, and later a growing party of characters with unique abilities, as you travel across an overworld map and explore towns, caves, and castles screen by screen. Your main goal is to stop a sorcerer from destroying the world, which involves a lot of dungeon delving and turn-based combat where each character and enemy acts based on their individual speed. The game has a brisk pace and a noticeable difficulty, especially in some of the later dungeons where enemy encounters are frequent. It feels like guiding a group of distinct personalities through a world that constantly tests their resolve.
