Play Dragon's Lair (Japan) on gb Online

You guide a goofy knight through a death trap castle by guessing button inputs—mess up and he’ll flop into spikes or get torched by the dragon. It’s clunky chaos, but watching him stumble around never gets old.

Game Overview

Dragon’s Lair on the Game Boy is basically the great-grandparent of those "press X to not die" moments in modern games. You play as Dirk the Daring, this hilariously clumsy knight trying to rescue Princess Daphne from a dragon’s castle—except instead of actually controlling him directly, you’re just frantically guessing which button to press before he faceplants into a spike pit or gets roasted.

The whole thing plays like an old cartoon where you’re barely in control, which sounds frustrating (and yeah, sometimes it is), but there’s something weirdly charming about watching Dirk bumble through traps while you scramble to keep up. The Game Boy version is obviously way simpler than the arcade original, but it’s still got that same "wait, was I supposed to jump or duck?!" panic. Just don’t expect to beat it without a few dozen tries first.
