Game Overview

Final Fantasy III on the DS is one of those RPGs that feels classic but still holds up surprisingly well. You start with four blank-slate characters—no fancy backstories, just pure job customization. At first, I stuck with the basic Warrior and Black Mage setup, but halfway through, I realized how much fun it was to experiment with weird combos (who knew a Dragoon/White Mage could work?).

The pixel art got a nice glow-up for the DS, and those little 3D dungeon crawls add just enough depth without losing the old-school charm. The crystal quests drag you into this surprisingly dark story about floating continents and ancient curses—way heavier than I expected from a game originally made in 1990. Just be ready for some brutal difficulty spikes when you hit the final dungeon.

If you’ve ever wanted to see where modern job systems started, this is a great place to dive in.
