Game Overview

Final Fantasy III (or VI, depending on who you ask) is one of those RPGs that just sticks with you. The story kicks off with this eerie prologue about the War of the Magi—ancient magic, forgotten tech, and an empire hungry for power. You start as three soldiers sent to retrieve an Esper, but things go sideways fast when one of them, a girl named Terra, triggers something… unexpected. Before long, you’re thrown into a rebellion with a wild cast of characters, each with their own reasons for fighting.

The combat’s got that classic ATB system—turns with a real-time twist—so battles stay tense. Everyone in your party can swing a sword or cast spells, but the real fun comes from equipping Espers to customize how characters grow. Want Locke to be a magic-heavy thief? Go for it. Need Edgar to hit harder with his tools? That’s an option too. The first half feels pretty linear, but then the game just… opens up. Suddenly you’re recruiting allies, tackling side quests, and piecing together the story at your own pace.

The PSP version keeps the original charm but adds slick FMVs and extra galleries. Later ports ditch the cutscenes but throw in bonus dungeons and gear, which is a fair trade. Either way, it’s a must-play if you’re into RPGs with deep characters and a world that actually feels alive.
