Final Fantasy III came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed and published by Square. It was one of the bigger, more ambitious RPGs on the system at the time, with a story that felt more complex and a world that was a lot bigger to explore than many of its predecessors.

Your main goal is to stop an evil sorcerer from sending the world into ruin, which involves gathering four elemental crystals to restore balance. Key mechanics include the Active Time Battle system, where enemies attack in real time even while you select commands, and the ability to change your party's equipment and magic outside of combat. The pacing is deliberate, with a steady difficulty curve that requires some grinding in later dungeons. It feels like guiding a group of distinct personalities through a long, perilous, and often surprising journey.
