Final Fantasy: Super Moogle World is one of those weird, wonderful fan games that shouldn’t work—but totally does. Picture this: you pick a classic FF job like Black Mage or Thief, except instead of turn-based battles, you’re jumping on Koopa-like enemies and tossing Firaga spells sideways. The first time I saw a Moogle pop out of a question block instead of a mushroom, I knew this was something special.

The levels are packed with little nods—Chocobos hopping out of warp pipes, Tonberries lurking in underground tunnels—and the controls somehow feel both Mario-smooth and FF-weighty. My only gripe? It’s over too fast. But for that hour or two, it’s pure SNES alchemy: all the charm of both worlds smooshed together with zero corporate polish. Just don’t expect the White Mage to do any actual healing when you miss a jump.
