Game Overview

Shanghai 2 on SNES is basically digital mahjong solitaire with way more style than you’d expect. You’re matching pairs of ornate tiles, clearing the board layer by layer—sounds simple until you realize half the tiles you need are buried under three others. The dragon-themed sets look gorgeous, especially the glowing "Dragon’s Eye" layout that’s way harder than it first appears.

There’s a weirdly satisfying rhythm to it once you get going: scanning for matching symbols, uncovering hidden layers, occasionally cursing when you realize you blocked yourself. The two-player mode turns it into a weirdly tense race against a friend. I still haven’t beaten the advanced puzzles without using hints.

It’s one of those games where you tell yourself “just one more round” at midnight and suddenly it’s 2 AM.
