Game Overview

Final Fantasy I & II on GBA is a solid way to revisit these classics if you're into old-school RPGs. The first game throws you right into itโ€”you pick your party from basic classes like warrior and black mage, then wander into a cave full of goblins that will wreck you if you're not careful. It's grindy, but there's something satisfying about watching your ragtag group slowly become powerful enough to take on the tougher dungeons.

The second game mixes things up with a weird leveling system where your stats grow based on what you do in battle. It's janky, but kind of interesting once you get used to it. The story's a bit more fleshed out too, with actual characters instead of blank slates. Both games have that classic pixel art style, though the GBA colors are brighter than the original NES versions.

If you don't mind random encounters and simple turn-based combat, Final Fantasy I & II hold up surprisingly well. Just be ready for some slow moments between the fun parts.
